Celestial Sunflower Earthbag Dome
Specifications: 24 sq. ft. interior diameter = 452 sq. ft., plus 300 sq. ft. bedroom loft, 752 sq. ft. interior total, Footprint: 34′ x 34′
Description: This dome maximizes daylight and views, in an open, airy design. Buttresses and earthbag benches reinforce the base on all sides. Interior can be finished per owner specs.
The design challenge here was to come up with the largest possible earthbag dome that also maximizes daylighting and views. This explains all the buttresses and benches.
Note: This design pushes the limit and is not recommended for first-tiime builders.
how tall would it be?

It’s 26′ tall. The first floor is standard 8′ high ceiling. The loft has a 14′ high ceiling. There’s a 4′ diameter skylight. All windows are arched and have eyebrows over them for protection against the elements.
If you’re seriously interested, I can post another drawing. It’s difficult to draw all the buttresses angling out, but I can show a section view.
I’m not sure if I qualify for serious interest. I love the floorplans, but I wish I could see elevations as well.
Thanks for your efforts.
How many human hours do you think it would take to build something so big?

I’ll try to post a section view soon.
How long will it take? It all depends on how many workers there are, skill level, choice of fill material and how well organized you are. Read this article that describes a similar dome: http://www.earthbagbuilding.com/projects/omdome.htm
Hi, we are nearly ready to close on acreage near Mt Rainier in WA state and would like to use a cluster of celestial sunflowers or similar domes to build a multigenerational farmstead house for our family. While we are biting off a large chunk, we plan on a few smaller projects beginning in February. I’d like to begin talks with you about customizing existing plans and wonder about scheduling time with you.
Kindest Regards,
Chris
