I have been doing extensive research on earthbag building. My husband is not really keen on the dome style, and would like to do a vertical walled structure. I have seen some with framing, concrete block pillars, and some with nothing at all but bags. Is there a recommended way to stabilize 90 degree corners on your plans or are they stable as is? We are looking to buy property and build in the next 3-5 years (after my husband retires from the military). Maybe more “green” ideas will be accepted and integrated into local building codes. In the mean time, I will be looking for land with no restrictions 🙂 Thanks for your time.
Sincerely,
S. Michaels
This design uses reinforced concrete posts cast in place (not shown) that interlock with earthbag walls using metal ties. Corners are actually quite strong. The concrete posts are primarily for reinforcing long, straight walls with lots of windows, Post construction details are provided with the plans.
